Poet & Mental Health Advocate
Hussain Manawer is the first ever poet to perform a sell-out headline show at London’s infamous Scala and has been awarded a Guinness world record for single-handedly organising the world’s largest Mental Health Lesson.
Between the grit of East London and the charisma of Essex sits the unassuming town named Ilford, home to the iconic Ilford Lane, Belgrave Road and internationally recognised poet, Hussain Manawer.
Drawing inspiration from Mike Skinner, JK Rowling and Tupac Shakur, it was the many nights in Valentine’s Park where Manawer began to perfect his craft. Having been inspired by a school teacher who urged him to enter a poetry competition, fast forward a decade or so and Hussain Manawer now travels across the world to deliver raw performances that promise to pack an emotional and inspiring punch.
Carving out a new genre of socially conscious art for the masses, the ‘Original Mummy’s Boy’ released his latest body of work entitled ‘Homemade’, a 4 track poetry grief cycle through Universal Music Virgin EMI, to critical praise:
“This is powerful, it is breaking stereotypes and people are loving it”
Hussain recently launched the UK’s largest mental health festival in partnership with Twitter UK at Hackney Empire and received an Honorary Fellowship from the prestigious Kings College London for his work in mental health and public sciences.
His poetry has since garnered regular airtime on stations such as BBC Radio 1, 1xtra, Radio 4, 5, 6 and Asian Network.
“Hussain is one of today’s dopest poets”
Evan Greene CMO of The Grammys
Hussain has already supported superstar Ellie Goulding at the Royal Albert Hall as well as Ed Sheeran and iconic Oscar-winning actress, Cher, and was requested to curate a one-off poem by London Mayor Sadiq Khan, entitled ‘London’s Legacy’ to celebrate the launch of the first night tube. See the video below.
Hussain is regularly asked to perform on national broadcast television and has written poems for Jeremy Vine which he performed live on Jeremy’s show (see video below) as well as numerous appearances on ITV’s Good Morning Britain.
Infiltrating the worlds of entertainment, finance and business, to name a few – through his campaign work and poetry, the Ilford based wordsmith is challenging the stigma that exists around the topic of mental health. Hussain previously set a Guinness World Record for the ‘World’s Largest Mental Health Lesson’ and appeared at Global Citizen Live alongside the late Kofi Annan, Emelie Sande, Maya Jama and Professor Green.
Hussain’s global reach has seen him share platforms with world-renowned leaders such as HRH Meghan Markle, actress Emma Watson and the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau.
